A nine-year-old girl died after a car crashed into a brick wall, police said.

The collision on Manchester Road, Altrincham, at 10:50 BST on Saturday involved a black Toyota Auris driven by a 45-year-old man.

The driver, who has not been identified, and an 11-year-old female passenger were taken to hospital.

Greater Manchester Police urged witnesses to the accident to get in touch as soon as possible.

It is is believed the driver and the children are all from the same family.

This story was updated on 8 May, 2016 to amend the age of the girl killed in the crash. Greater Manchester Police originally reported the nine-year-old victim was in her “young teens”.
